Season of the Zombie

My favorite season is almost upon me.  I LOVE October.  I love the weather, the fall leaves, the crisp mornings, colors, and most of all Halloween!  I love to decorate and look at magazines that feature crafts I aspire to make, but will instead just oggle, plan for, and then not make, but convince myself that I'll make next year, because I'm just too busy this year.  Whatever.  It's Fall and I love Fall.

If you know anything about me at all, you know that I have a bit of a zombie thing.  I love zombie games, movies, events, etc.  I still have grand plans to do the zombie 5k, although I will probably have to wait for the Seattle or Austin events next year.  I'm dying for a new Left 4 Dead to come out, or the next super awesome game of scary intrigue.  This is why I hate to say this, from the bottom of my heart.  Zombies are becoming over-rated.  I KNOW!  I can't believe I just said that.

I don't know what happened in the last few years, but zombies went from being a fringe horror character to an over-marketed, mass-produced, unimaginative, over-touted disappointment.  I'm still in for the zombie 5k, don't get me wrong.  But I'm a disappointed that zombies have become so mainstream.  Maybe it's my desire to do something a little out of the norm, but the zombie hype is starting to tick me off.  It's ruining the fun of it, much in the same way that popularity ruins a singer who used to be on the edge, but is now waving her dessert covered breasts in your face and you hear on the radio in one form or another every five freaking minutes.

I'm thinking I might have to find a new outlet for my need to be scared or fascinated by spooky things.  I'd think about going back to ghosts, but Hollywood has managed to ruin that for me as well.  (much in the way that Travel Channel has ticked me off with their ghost hunter programs that consist of nothing but people saying, "shut up! shut up!  Did you hear that?  Did you... wait. Shut up!  sssshhhh!  I swear I heard a .... Shut up!"  "Now let's listen to the audio play back: '(unintelligible sound)'.  Oh.. that was clear as day!  It was a female voice saying 'Get out!'"..... are they kidding?  And that ball of light that's actually a floating piece of dust.... Sigh.)

I'm willing to take suggestions.  I still think one of the scariest games I've ever played is "Fatal Frame", which is ghost-based, but done in one of the creepiest ways possible. So, I'm open to repeating fascinations if they are done well, is my point. They should bring that back. Seriously loved that game.  Not that I'm going to say no to another Left 4 Dead or zombie-flavored lollipop, but it's time for something else to obsess over.  Maybe I'll go back to my ultimate fear.... clowns.  Freaking evil, horrible, give me nightmares clowns.... *shudder*.
